Wood creates a special sense of warmth, contentment and cosiness – both during the construction process and in the finished building. That is what makes working with it so special to me.

Michael is a construction and project manager specialising in timber construction

Michael first became aware of us through a lecture featuring project presentations by ZÜBLIN Timber as part of his degree course. Today, he is particularly excited by the all-round package offered by the role of construction and project manager.

How did you first hear about ZÜBLIN Timber?

It was during my “Timber Construction and Finishing” degree at Rosenheim University of Applied Sciences that I first became aware of ZÜBLIN Timber through a lecture featuring project presentations by the company. Even back then, I was fascinated by work in timber construction, and I soon developed a desire to join the structural works team as a site and project manager. I found the opportunity to travel all over Germany on various construction projects and get to know different cities particularly exciting.

What sets ZÜBLIN Timber apart?

For me, what really sets ZÜBLIN Timber apart is the working atmosphere. Collaborating with colleagues from different departments on a wide variety of projects is always something special. I also appreciate the great trust placed in me, even as a young site manager. This includes the responsibility that I am allowed – and keen – to take on.

Why did you choose to become a construction and project manager? What appeals to you about it?

I’m really excited by the whole package that the role of construction and project manager offers. I enjoy being out on the building site, getting stuck in and solving problems straight on site. At the same time, I find the organisational tasks in the office exciting, such as liaising with the client or subcontractors. It’s the interplay between these two ‘worlds’ that makes the job so special to me.

  • As a construction and project manager, I get to experience the interplay between these two ‘worlds’ every day. I move between the building site and the office, organise processes, coordinate those involved and, at the same time, stay close to what’s happening on site. That’s what makes it so appealing to me.

What do you think is so special about wood as a building material, and about working with it?

Wood has fascinated me ever since I was a child. The versatility of the material and the possibilities it offers never cease to impress me. Wood creates a special sense of warmth, contentment and cosiness – both during the working process and in the finished structure. That is what makes working with it so special to me.

You are currently in charge of the timber construction work at the IGEWO housing estate in Haunstetten. What are the challenges or distinctive features of this project?

What I particularly enjoy about this project is working with our colleagues at ZÜBLIN Augsburg. The IGEWO Haunstetten project serves as the basis for many further joint projects. I am also particularly impressed by the high level of prefabrication made possible by our production processes. As a result, the buildings go up very quickly and the building site looks different every day. One minor challenge is the tightly scheduled construction programme. This calls for precise coordination to ensure that everything runs smoothly in the end.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to start a career in construction and project management at ZÜBLIN Timber?

Anyone wishing to work in construction and project management should be aware that the role involves a high level of responsibility and that the workload can be demanding. At the same time, it is an incredibly fulfilling profession: after a successful day, I go home feeling satisfied and proud. That is what makes the work so rewarding for me.
